Christmas via Instagram

Since I've been so behind on my holiday crafts, I haven't had any time to get some good HQ shots of the holiday cards I've made.  I'll be better, I promise. Luckily there's instagram. Follow me @PaperieLane!

A Flower for your Birthday

handmade birthday card I just got back from an awesome weekend of sun and relaxation at the SLS hotel in South Beach Miami.  We spent most of our time lounging by the pool being treated like royalty. The pool service was amazing. Someone would always come by with a tray and offer us slices of freshly cut watermelon, popsicles, or my favorite...frozen grapes.

The food was delicious! I tried Cuban food for the first time and had delicious paella and gelato on Española Way.  We also found a small shop, La Sandwicherie. They had the most amazing french vinaigrette. We loved it so much, we went back there three times!

I <3 Miami!

flower card

It's always hard to jump back into work after vacation. I was completely dead on Monday. It's now Thursday, and I am still feeling dead.

Hopefully the weekend will wake me up.

foam tape

flower petals

I love adding depth and texture to a simple card. The key ingredient... foam tape.

Since this was a fairly simply card, I wanted to give the petals some pop. I only used a single layer of foam tape, but I'll probably do a double layer next time, to make it stand out more.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my darling cousin, Tracy!

Vicky's Bridal Shower

In 2003, we made a list of who we thought would get married first and I think Terry guessed that Vicky was going to go first. Too bad I can't find that list anymore, so there is no real proof that any of us got it right. Bridal shower bannerThe bridal party only gave me a week in advance to help out with the shower, but I was happy to do so.  Thank you to Annie, Wendy and Tracy for helping me with this rush order.

The bridal party did a wonderful job.  There were delicious homemade snacks, a bunch of photo ops, games and prizes!  Whenever there is a prize involved, the competitive side of me comes out and it ain't always pretty.

But this time, I kept it classy. Me and my classy sass won that game where you're not allowed to say "Vicky" (bride), "Preston" (groom), and "Wedding" throughout the entire shower.

bridal shower bouquet game

Game two was a competition between the tables on crafting a bouquet for the bride to use during the rehearsal. The moms got very creative, instead of using the materials provided, they took the center piece flower and the name place cards and created a masterpiece.  Not sure how fresh that rose will keep until the rehearsal. Great job moms!

Happy Falling

Now that I've upgraded from a QuicKutz puncher to a Sizzix Big Shot, I'm going to start building my die cut collection. I went browsing at my beloved local stamp boutique and saw a lot of samples using this treat bag die. These are so versatile; they're the perfect way to gift my salted pumpkin caramels. caramel treats

autumn gift box

Using the Martha Stewart Scoring Board and card stock, I made these 4x4 inch boxes to wrap the candies (although I question how much this box can carry before falling apart on me).  It's always so tacky to use regular scotch tape to tape the box together, so I always use scrapbooking double sided adhesive, but I find that it doesn't really keep the box (or treat bag) intact. This is where washi tape comes to the rescue.
